New Macs 2026: The First Touchscreen Mac, and the One Most Businesses Should Buy Instead

Apple announced a MacBook Pro with an OLED touch display, a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip, and an M6 iMac. Confirmed prices and specs from Apple — and one detail about the chips that most coverage will skip.

Short answer

Apple announced three Macs in late October 2026: a MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR OLED display and Touch, the first touchscreen Mac, from $2,899; a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip from $1,999; and an iMac with M6 from $1,499. Pre-orders opened 28 October and all three arrive on Friday, 6 November.

The catch: the touchscreen MacBook Pro uses M5 Pro and M5 Max, not M6. For most small businesses, the M6 iMac or the 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro is the better buy; the touchscreen model is a first-generation product for creative work.

Pre-orders opened 28 October 2026. Apple says all three arrive on Friday, 6 November. Prices are U.S. list prices from Apple’s newsroom releases.

MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR: the first touchscreen Mac

This is the headline. Apple’s own spec list:

The detail most coverage will miss: the touchscreen MacBook Pro uses M5 Pro and M5 Max, not M6. The new M6 chip is in the cheaper 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard Liquid Retina XDR display. The most expensive laptop is not the one with the newest chip.

14-inch MacBook Pro with M6

The new chip arrives here, at $1,999 ($1,899 education):

Apple’s performance claims versus M5 (its figures, not independent tests): up to 30% faster graphics, up to 25% faster AI workloads, and a Neural Engine up to 1.9 times faster. Treat those as a reason to read reviews, not as a result.

iMac with M6

The all-in-one gets the same chip, at $1,499 for the 10-core model and $1,699 for the 12-core:

macOS 27 and Siri AI: the part with a catch

All three ship with macOS 27 “Golden Gate”. Apple says Siri AI is built into Spotlight and system menus, and is in beta in macOS 27.2 in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

The line worth noticing for a business buyer: Apple says server-side Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, are subject to daily usage limits, and that expanded access will cost a fee in the future. If the AI features are part of why you are buying, that is an ongoing cost to watch, not a one-off.

Which one should a small business buy?

This section is our judgement, not Apple’s, and it is made before any of these machines are in reviewers’ hands.

Apple does not publish a direct M6-versus-M5 Pro comparison in the releases we read, so which chip is faster for your work is an open question until independent benchmarks appear.

A reminder from the other side of the counter

A new Mac makes your own work faster. It does not bring in customers. For most small businesses the spend that returns money is still the website customers find you on. If that is the weak link, our free website audit and builder ranking are a more direct use of the same budget.

Bottom line

The touchscreen MacBook Pro is the story, but the M6 iMac and 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro are what most small businesses should actually look at — newer chip, lower price, no first-generation risk.

All three arrive on 6 November, and independent reviews arrive with them. If you are not in a hurry, read those before you spend.

Frequently asked questions

What new Macs did Apple announce in October 2026?

Three: a MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display and Touch (the first touchscreen Mac) in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip, and an iMac with M6. Apple published the releases on 27 and 28 October, opened pre-orders on 28 October, and says all three arrive on Friday, 6 November 2026.

How much does the new MacBook Pro with the OLED touch display cost?

In the U.S.: $2,899 for the 14-inch with M5 Pro, $3,399 for the 16-inch with M5 Pro, $4,499 for the 14-inch with M5 Max and $4,799 for the 16-inch with M5 Max. Education pricing is $150 to $300 lower.

How much do the M6 MacBook Pro and M6 iMac cost?

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999 ($1,899 education). The iMac with M6 starts at $1,499 for the 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU model and $1,699 for the 12-core and 12-core model ($1,449 and $1,599 education).

Does the touchscreen MacBook Pro have the new M6 chip?

No. The MacBook Pro with the PROLED XDR display uses M5 Pro or M5 Max. The M6 chip is in the cheaper 14-inch MacBook Pro with the Liquid Retina XDR display. The most expensive laptop is not the one with the newest chip.

Is the new MacBook Pro really a touchscreen?

Yes. Apple says it is the first Mac with Touch, with the touch sensor built into the display panel and a redesigned hinge for stability. How useful it is depends on how many apps adopt it, which we cannot judge until the machines ship on 6 November.

How much faster is the M6?

Apple says the M6 MacBook Pro has up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI workloads than M5, and a Neural Engine up to 1.9 times faster. Those are Apple's own figures from its footnotes, not independent tests; wait for reviews before paying for speed.

Which new Mac should a small business buy?

For most small businesses, the iMac with M6 at $1,499 or the 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro at $1,999 covers bookkeeping, email, design tools and video calls. The touchscreen MacBook Pro is a first-generation product aimed at creative and pro work; that is our judgement, not Apple's. Do not buy it for touch alone.
