Apple announced the iPhone Duo on 9 September 2026 — its first foldable iPhone. Pre-orders opened at 5:00am PT on 16 October 2026, and it becomes available on 23 October. Pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB, with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB configurations above that.
It is a book-style foldable with a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display, in a titanium design that measures 5.2mm when open and 11.3mm closed. It runs the A20 Pro chip, carries a 48MP dual-camera system, is rated IP68, and is the first iPhone to support Apple Pencil. Every figure on this page comes from Apple’s own specifications and store pages, linked at the end.

The dimensions are the most interesting thing Apple published, because they describe a shape no other mainstream foldable uses. Open, the Duo is 6.48 inches wide by 4.64 inches tall — wider than it is tall. Most book-style foldables open into a portrait rectangle; the Duo opens into a landscape one, which is why it is being described as passport-style.
That choice has consequences. A landscape inner display is better for video, side-by-side documents and maps, and more awkward for a single long column of text. It also means the 5.4-inch outer display is a genuinely usable phone rather than a narrow strip — a common complaint about earlier foldables.
At 5.2mm open and 11.3mm closed, the Duo is thin by foldable standards. Apple describes a titanium foldable design with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front.
On the crease itself: Apple's marketing describes the display as “foldable, posable, and durable,” and the specifications list a nano-texture finish on the inner display. Apple does not publish a crease measurement, and no independent long-term durability testing exists yet, because the device has not shipped. Anyone telling you how the crease performs in daily use before 23 October is guessing.

The two share a chip, so this is not a performance decision. You are choosing between a much larger folding screen and a materially better camera for $800 less. See our iPhone 18 Pro page for the full camera breakdown.

Yes. Apple announced the iPhone Duo on 9 September 2026 at its “Surprise and shine” event. It is Apple's first foldable iPhone. Pre-orders opened at 5:00am PT on 16 October 2026 and the device becomes available on 23 October 2026.
Apple lists it from $1,999 for the 256GB model, or $83.29 a month over 24 months. Storage options are 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB, so the top configuration costs substantially more. That makes it the most expensive iPhone Apple has sold.
The inner folding display is 7.6 inches (1878-by-2670 at 430 ppi) with a nano-texture finish. The outer display is 5.4 inches (1398-by-2034 at 460 ppi). Both are Super Retina XDR OLED with Dynamic Island, Always-On, and ProMotion up to 120Hz.
Apple lists it at 0.21 inch (5.2 mm) deep when open and 0.44 inch (11.3 mm) when closed. Open, it measures 6.48 inches wide by 4.64 inches tall — wider than it is tall, which is why the design is described as passport-style. It weighs 8.96 ounces (254 grams).
It uses the A20 Pro chip: a 6-core CPU with 2 super cores and 4 efficiency cores, a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. The camera is a 48MP Dual Fusion system with a 48MP Fusion Main at 26 mm and ƒ/1.6, with sensor-shift optical image stabilisation.
Apple rates it IP68, to a maximum depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes, under IEC standard 60529. Achieving an IP rating on a hinged device was considered one of the harder engineering problems in the foldable category.
Yes. Apple's specifications list support for Apple Pencil (USB-C), which is a first for iPhone and reflects the larger inner display.
They target different buyers. The Duo costs $800 more and trades camera capability for a large folding display — it has a 48MP dual camera system where the 18 Pro has a 48MP triple system with variable aperture and a 16x optical-quality zoom range. Choose the Duo for the screen; choose the 18 Pro for the camera and the lower price.
